25th Year Anniversary

ABOUT

“We Are The World” became an anthem inspiring the world to focus on the dire needs of those affected by the African famine. Hands Across America galvanized 7 million people, both superstars and ordinary folks, to come together and highlight the problems of hunger and homelessness in America. These extraordinary events helped pave the way for pop culture to impact on issues of social significance; a trend that has helped millions of people and continues to prosper today.

25 Years of Accomplishments

Since the historic release of “We Are The World” in 1985, United Support of Artists for Africa (USA for Africa) has earned and spent $63 million from sales of more than 7 million units of the album, single and cassettes and related merchandise, plus nearly 2 million digital sales. Half was spent on emergency relief, the balance on 500 projects in 18 African countries and 250 Africa-focused programs in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Our mission: To take action that will help demonstrate the importance and power of individual participation and collective action in helping to solve the problems, address issues and challenges that presently confront our global society.

Hunger still exists, our climate is challenged, conflicts rage around the world. The need for people to care and act still exists, perhaps more urgently than ever before. We honor our past and those who led our early efforts, those who made our initial efforts so impactful, and salute those dedicated visionaries and volunteers who are spearheading our efforts today. Past is prologue to the future and our future world will only be as good as we enable it to be.
