25th Year Anniversary

Angelique Kidjo

ANGELIQUE KIDJO

With joy and passion Angelique embodies the spirit of Africa. Through her music, life and exuberant commitment to advocacy she exemplifies unity, peace and diversity.

Angelique Kidjo has been deemed “Africa’s premier diva” by Time Magazine, and the moniker speaks accurately to the singular career and life she has forged: Like Miriam Makeba was before her, Kidjo is the continent’s most internationally celebrated female musical exponent. And yet, the GRAMMY-winning artist has lived outside Africa for more than two decades. She currently resides in New York City, where she is an exceptionally active member of the music scene, and she reaches people around the world with her recordings, tours and philanthropic work.

“25 years ago “We are The World” has shown us that the power of music can go beyond entertainment and remind us there is only one humanity. I always call my microphone my “weapon of mass loving”. I think I got the idea from this beautiful song!” ~Angelique Kidjo~

ANGELIQUE KIDJO: Oyo.The Grammy Awards are just a few weeks away, so I thought it was high time we take an in-depth look at some of this year’s candidates in the world music categoriesOyo, the 2010 release by Beninese diva Angelique Kidjo, is nominated in the “Best Contemporary World Music” category, alongside albums from Bebel Gilberto, Bela Fleck, Sergio Mendes, and Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, and it’s a strong contender. Featuring a slate of Kidjo’s favorite songs from across many genres and many years, it’s a slightly scattered but ultimately pretty great record, and my favorite album that she’s released in several years. Angelique’s song Agbalagba appears on We Are The World / United In song http://tinyurl.com/UnitedInSong More about Angelique Kidjo
